25 NOVEMBER
DAY OF UNIVERSAL LOVE, COMPASSION AND PEACE
Due to the modern, hectic lifestyle, we might get lost in the rat race of life, so having one day a year might help us remember ourselves and reconnect with who we want to be, where we want to go, and how we would like this world to be.
The DAY OF UNIVERSAL LOVE, COMPASSION AND PEACE was started by His Holiness Shri Shivakumar Swamiji Nasimath in Bangalore, India, ten years ago. He wanted people to remind themselves that being kind to nature and people is the most important thing in life. He was saying this daily, and we are all aware of it, but sometimes we might lose our direction on the track of life.
I used to ask Him if we could, from a distant, faraway place, stop wars, crimes, killings, and famines. How would that be possible? What is our impact? Can we contribute somehow to making this world a better place? And He would always answer that the world could be a better place only if we wished it to be. Be kind to nature and animals. Pray for timely rains. Be kind to other people.
I’ll try to sum up His words. Firstly, we need to wish for it. Let’s start with nature. We might not be able to travel far away to help save whales or other endangered species, but at least we can feed the birds near our home or help stray animals.
Besides that, we might not have the capacity to help the homeless and poor by providing them a warm home, but at least a warm meal, a hot beverage, or another act of kindness might help as well. Remember, each action counts!
If we wish good for others, it becomes a part of us. With our every breath, it affects and shapes the world around us. That is the power of prayer. Whether you pray to God, ask the Universe to fulfil your wishes, or just make a wish, the results will manifest.
Is it enough to only pray? Pray. Pray. Pray. But also take action (within your own capacity). If possible, provide a warm meal or clothes for somebody, or help in any other way.
Furthermore, a crucial factor for a “good” prayer, or a prayer that will manifest, is your state of mind during the prayer. If your mind feels like traffic in an average Asian metro city, then how can you go deep inside and focus on your wishes and your prayer?
So, firstly, find your peace. It’s inside you, even if the veil of “un-peace” might cover your true Self. Only when you find peace within yourself and are at peace with yourself are you able to radiate that peace around you.
The next question that comes to my mind is: How do we find peace? First and foremost, calm the mind and stop all ruminations. When you do pranayama (yogic breathing techniques), it will occur naturally. Start with simple deep breathing. Oxygen and prana will heal your body and mind. They will bring peace to your mind.
As Guruji Nasimath would always say: Peace in you creates peace in your family, your street, town, country, and the world. So, on this Day of Universal Love, Compassion and Peace, sit for a few minutes, do deep breathing, pray for nature and animals, and pray for peace in your family, street, town, country, and the entire world.
Let all conflicts cease.
Let all people have food, clothes, and shelter.
Let all children be protected and have a happy childhood!
Happy Day of Universal Love, Compassion and Peace!
Let it not be only a word on your lips or one more social media post, but a true belief and a wish coming from your heart. Make this day, and all other days, happy for others too. Make this world a better place for everyone.
